Certain types of soil require more water than others. Water as infrequently as possible.  But when you do water, really soak it so water gets down to the roots. Frequent waterings promote a shallower root system and weeds.  Deep roots help your lawn win the fight against extremely hot temperatures and disease. When temperatures soar, you will need to water more frequently. Lawns that are rooted in clay should be watered every three days and lawns that have a sand base should be watered every other day.
